Put all four of the scenes of Act one together.
ACT ONEINT. HOUSE- PORCHADAM is sitting down in CHAIR. He sits calmly, just observing his surroundings.
ADAM goes in the HOUSE and turns on the TV. He heads into the KITCHEN to get a SNACK as he listens to the news in the background.
INSERT- REAL NEWS CLIP OF WOLF OR BEAR ATTACK
ADAM
There aren’t any wolves around here.
ADAM was eating his SNACK at the TABLE when suddenly he noticed a MAN out in his BACKYARD who stood about 5’10 with a rather stocky posture. He stood in a hunched stance, staring at the WINDOW. ADAM walked OUTSIDE
ADAM
Hey! Can I help you? Are you lost?
Once ADAM shouted his words to the stranger, the (partially transformed) MAN ran off into the bushes. ADAM ran off trying to catch the MAN before he got too far, but it was futile. ADAM noticed that there was a spot of blood from where the MAN stood; finger prints of BLOOD on the leaves.
ADAM
What the….?
INT. ADAMS HOUSE- DRIVEWAYADAM is seen SHOVELING SNOW in his DRIVEWAY. DEREK comes bounding from the left and approaches ADAM,
DEREK
So here you are, I was wondering why you weren't answering the phone.
ADAM
(continues shoveling)
Yes, here I am. Still slaving as you can see. So, what do you want?
DEREK
I need you to see something. I was out jogging and I came across this weird thing. I really think that you should see it
ADAM
(condesending)
Sounds intriging. What is it? A UFO?
DEREK
I'm serious. It's nothing like that. I found something off the trail. It looked like blood.
ADAM
(Serious tone)
Blood? Was there alot of it?
DEREK
Yes, it looked like the reamins of an attack or something
ADAM
It was most likely a cat or something that got killed. There was a report of a couple local wolf attacks
DEREK
I don't think it was a cat. You really should see it
ADAM
I don't really have time Derek, if I don't finish the driveway, my dad's gonna kill me
DEREK
It'll just take a second.
ADAM
(saracastic)
Go ask Mark to do it, I'm sure he'd love to help. You too can go have a little adventure.
DEREK
Don't give me that crap. Just because you're angry at him doesn't mean that you have to be an asshole to me
ADAM
(stops)
Your right. I'm sorry. I've just been a little off lately
DEREK
And I already called Mark. He wasn't answering either. And I don't think he's home. I stopped by and no one was there.
ADAM
Yeah. whatever.
DEREK
So are you going to come see this?
ADAM
Fine. But it better actually be something.
INT. WOODS – ROADDEREK is jogging on ROAD. DEREK takes dirt road through WOODS. He stops abruptly at a bizarre mess of SNOW. He examines it closely and notices BLOOD. He sees a BLOOD TRAIL (drag) and somewhat follows it.
CUT TO- ADAM and DEREK walking on same ROAD.
ADAM
I don’t understand. Where is this thing out here that you need to show me?
DEREK
Dude, trust me…it’s the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen
DEREK points to BLOOD TRAIL. ADAM crouches low to inspect it. He covers his mouth with his hand.
ADAM
Oh my god….
DEREK
(Crouches beside him)
Now tell me, what kind of animal can do something like this?
ADAM looks further at the TRAIL
ADAM
It looks…it almost looks like it was dragged
DEREK nods in agreement
ADAM
(Busy inspecting the damage)
Why did you want to show me this?
DEREK
I just had to have you see it for yourself. Had to see what you make of it
ADAM
(Stands back up)
There was a couple wolf attacks on the news but…but when have their been any wolf sightings…it’s just so…odd
DEREK
Well if it is a wolf, then what do you suppose that it killed?
ADAM
(Clueless)
I have no idea; there is just so much blood. I’ve never seen anything like this.
ADAM and DEREK follow the TRAIL and uncover a small mess of BLOODY SNOW. ADAM digs around and reveals a BLOODY SHIRT. ADAM steps back in fear and astonishment.
DEREK
Is that...oh my god?
ADAM
We have to do something about this. Something isn’t right here. Just this morning I thought I saw something in my yard, and I found this weird bloody mark with it. The news story…and this…I think it’s all connected.
DEREK
Then…then what does it all mean?
ADAM
I don’t know…
SCENE 2INT. HOUSE – LIVING ROOMADAM and DEREK rushed into the LIVING ROOM. ADAM picked up the PHONE in an attempt to call 911. No one answered.
ADAM
The phone isn’t working… (Panic in voice)
DEREK
What…what do you mean? Why aren’t the phones working? This isn’t right! Adam, what’s going on?
ADAM
I don't know...
ADAM and DEREK went across the STREET and began knocking on DOORS to get answers.
ADAM
Hello?
There was no answer. They walked to all the other HOUSES on the STREET. No answer. After time spent searching for help, ADAM and DEREK gave up and went back to Adam’s HOUSE.
DEREK
There’s no one around. Where…where is everyone?
ADAM
Honestly….I have no idea. But whatever it is it can’t be good. Hang on, let me try and see if I can get a hold of my parents.
As ADAM tried to call his parents, DEREK thought about his parents as well.
DEREK
Oh man, maybe I should see if my parents are alright.
ADAM called his parents, but there was no answer. DEREK also tried to call his parents, but there was no answer. Fear struck both there hearts.
DEREK
This isn’t good! I… I have to check and see if they are alright.
ADAM
Don’t! I’m sure they’re fine. Don’t assume the worst.
Just as ADAM finished his sentence, a pounding struck upon the DOOR and he rushed to get it hoping it would be someone who could help. He opened the DOOR to find MARK leaning against the other end of the DOOR bleeding from the neck; he was covered with scars along his arms.
MARK
Help me…please
…
ADAM and DEREK bring MARK to the bathroom and begin cleaning his wounds.
ADAM
Gah…that’s deep. What the hell happened to you?
MARK
(Heavy breathing)
It…it got inside the house
DEREK
What did?...is it one of those wolves?
DEREK and ADAM begin to clean MARK’s wounds and apply pressure to the neck. MARK begins to drift out of consciousness
ADAM
Mark? Mark I need you to stay with me
ADAM tries to slap MARK awake while DEREK inspects MARK’s scratches.
DEREK
Jesus….
MARK’s eyes snap open and he regains consciousness.
MARK
You need…you need to lock the doors. They’ll come inside. They’ll come inside
ADAM grips onto MARK’s face and looks him in the eyes.
ADAM
Mark you need to calm down, what happened? Who’s coming?
MARK
You don’t understand
MARK pulls ADAM in close, as if to whisper something.
MARK
I let him in. I let him inside.
SCENE 3INT. HOUSE- FRONT YARDADAM and DEREK stand outside MARK’s HOUSE. ADAM steps forward, looking at the place curiously.
ADAM
We should go in. Find out what happened.
ADAM and DEREK enter the HOUSE. ADAM and DEREK look strangely at the place. Several HOUSEHOLD ITEMS are lying about in a mess.
DEREK
What the hell happened here?
ADAM
I don’t know, but something attacked Mark. Be careful, Mark said that it’s still in the house
DEREK
(Looking around)
Did he mention exactly what attacked him?
ADAM
No, unfortunately.
DEREK
Great, did you see those scars? We should be calling the police, or Animal control or something; not searching for whatever attacked him by ourselves.
ADAM
Well, you can go ahead and do that. Wait, do let me know if you get a signal, won’t you?
ADAM and DEREK walk farther into the house.
DEREK
So what do you think attacked him anyways? What do you think is going on here?
ADAM
I don’t know what to think anymore. Something is happening. And I fear that it’s not going to go over very well
DEREK
Right, that’s what I think to. It’s like some weird apocalypse-rapture bullshit going on
ADAM
I wouldn’t go so far as to call it that. But I…
ADAM is interrupted by a LOUD BANGING from the BATHROOM. Both boys stand outside the BATHROOM door in awe.
DEREK
Wasn’t Mark saying something about what attacked him? Said that he trapped it or something?
ADAM
Yeah…he said that he trapped it…
ADAM and DEREK watch strangely as a few more LOUD BANGINGS from INSIDE BATHROOM
DEREK
There’s no way in hell I’m going in there
ADAM
Mark was so anxious about it. What kind of animal could do something like this?
ADAM and DEREK turn in fear as they see a GUN pointed towards ADAM’s FACE.
NATHAN
(Loud and imposing)
Are you infected?
DEREK
What the hell are you doing?
NATHAN
(Loud)
ARE YOU INFECTED?
ADAM watches nervously as NATHAN points the GUN. DEREK watches the seen in fear and confusion. NATHAN waves the GUN on both of them.
ADAM
What are you doing? Just calm down…
NATHAN
I’ve been hunting these…things all morning. I was almost killed. What are you doing here? Do you live here or something?
ADAM
What things? What do you mean hunted?
LOUD BANGING can be heard from the BATHROOM.
NATHAN
Is one of them in there?
ADAM
What’s in there? What the hell is going on?
NATHAN pauses and lowers his GUN.
NATHAN
Something is happenings. It’s a disease or some sort. It’s affecting people…its making them…
DEREK
Making them what?
NATHAN
Violent, incredibly violent. It’s some new type of biological warfare
ADAM
What? You mean this is some kind of attack?
NATHAN
I don’t know what it is. All I now is that it’s making people dangerous.
ADAM
(Thinking to self then saying aloud)
You said earlier that you’ve been hunting these things all morning. You mean that you’ve been hunting people?
NATHAN is quiet, as if thinking of what to say.
DEREK
Oh my god! You can be serious, you’ve been killing people?
NATHAN
You don’t understand! They aren’t people any more; they turn….turn into these awful things.
ADAM
They’re still people, regardless if they're sick. You can’t just kill people
NATHAN
(Angry, defensive, yelling)
These things are not human! It was self-defense; I would have died if I didn’t make a decision.
LOUD BANGINGS continue on the other side of the BATHROOM
NATHAN
And I’m going to have to make a decision now
ADAM
Are you insane? If there is someone in there then we need to help them!
NATHAN
Be my guest, but when that thing tries to rip you apart, we’ll see what morals do for you then.
LOUD BANGINS continue. There is a silence.
DEREK
What are you going to do?
NATHAN
(Asking permission)
I need to kill it. It’s the only way to be safe.
ADAM
You’re not going in there
NATHAN
Really?
ADAM
Yeah. You can’t just go around killing people. If this is some kind of disease then we need to reach the police
NATHAN
That thing's not going to wait for the police to show up, we need to kill it before it kills us
ADAM
Can you hear yourself? You’re talking about some sick person as if they were some type of animal. They’re still human.
NATHAN
Believe me, when you start ripping people apart with your bare hands, you lose your humanity
NATHAN gets his GUN ready and prepares himself. He heads to the BATHROOM DOOR cautiously. He opens the DOOR and immediately steps back aiming his gun into the BATHROOM. He sees the MAN huddled in the corner of the BATHROOM, BLOOD dripping from his HANDS.
NATHAN
Stay out here (directed at Adam and Derek)
As NATHAN approaches, the man throws NATHAN into the WALL in the HALLWAY. His GUN falls to the GROUND.
NATHAN
Get my gun! Kill him!
ADAM and DEREK look at each other deciding on what to do. Meanwhile, NATHAN is being attacked by the crazed MAN. The MAN is trying to rip a chunk out of NATHAN’S jugular.
NATHAN
Hurry! (While trying to fend off the attack)
ADAM picks the GUN and takes aim
DEREK
What are you doing?
ADAM
He’ll kill him! I…I have to!
The crazed MAN notices ADAM and his intentions. Slowly, the MAN gets up and focuses on ADAM and him only. He makes haste toward ADAM. As a reaction, ADAM pulls the TRIGGER striking the chest of the MAN.
ADAM
Oh my god…
DEREK
You killed him…
NATHAN rises. ADAM looks down at the copse regretfully.
NATHAN
Thank you. It had to be done.
DEREK
Adam, you just killed a man…
ADAM
I…he was going to kill us…
NATHAN
Now you see, there was no other way. You can’t show these things any humanity, any remorse. They’re vicious
DEREK
But…Adam…
NATHAN
We have to keep moving. More will come
DEREK
Just hold on, what do you mean more?
ADAM
He’s right Derek, we need to go.
NATHAN
Good. I know where we’ll be safe.
SCENE 4INT. ROAD-STREET.ADAM and NATHAN walk side to side. DEREK follows angrily.
ADAM
Where exactly are we going?
NATHAN
I know of a safe place where we can go. A place where we can ride out the storm.
DEREK
Why can't we stay at Adam's house? (Anger in voice)
NATHAN
I doubt it's as well prepared for such an event
DEREK
(More mumbled) I'm sure Adam's house is fine
ADAM
Don’t be like that Derek. (Spoken to Nathan) We'll go to your house, but first we have to go get a friend of mine. It’ll just take a minute
As the group approaches ADAM’S HOUSE, a group comes from the corner. About two of them walk out. Once they actually see ADAM, DEREK, and NATHAN they begin moving at a faster rate; they begin running.
ADAM
Hurry, get to the house!
The group runs to the HOUSE and shuts the DOOR before the creatures could get in.
DEREK
That was close
ADAM
Yeah…
NATHAN noticed BLOOD leading to the BATHROOM where he saw MARK sitting on the FLOOR hold a TOWEL to his neck. After what he saw, NATHAN rushed back to ADAM and DEREK.
NATHAN
Hey! Is he infected?
ADAM
He’s fine…he’s just
NATHAN
(Franticly)
Is he infected? We have to...
ADAM stands in front of MARK, trying to protect him from NATHAN
ADAM
Nobody’s going to do anything to him. What we need to do is get him some medical attention
NATHAN
(Looking at Mark’s neck wounds)
That's a bad wound. It’s deep. Did one of those things do that do him?
ADAM
I don’t know, but I think it did
MARK
(Mumbling)
It’s…did you guys kill it?
ADAM
Yes…yes
MARK tries to rise but falls back down onto the COUCH in pain.
ADAM
Stay still. Nathan, are they still out there?
NATHAN leaves from the WINDOW CURTAIN
NATHAN
(Worried)
Yes
ADAM puts his head into his arms. MARK stirs uncomfortably and coughs. NATHAN stares down at the ground, clutching his GUN nervously. DEREK stands with a TOWEL to MARK’s NECK worriedly. FADE OUT.
